Aerospace Engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering field that deals with the problems of design and maintenance of aircraft (moving through the Earth’s atmosphere). It is a special field of study of mechanical engineering that investigates methods and means of aircraft design, construction, testing, production, and maintenance.
The Department of Aerospace Engineering is one of the oldest at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In year 2021, the Department celebrated its first 90 years of existence! Throughout its long history, it has educated a great number (over 3032) of aeronautical experts that work both in Serbia and abroad. The Department is one of a kind in Serbia and neighboring countries.
In addition to educating domestic students in Serbian, the Department also provides courses in English to foreign students. Together with performing teaching activities, the Department staff also continuously participate in research and industrial projects (design of airplanes, gliders, jet and rocket engines, helicopters, etc).
The Department is closely connected with other departments at the University of Belgrade, as well as numerous national research institutes and companies:
One of the greatest assets of the Department of Aerospace Engineering is most certainly the student’s association “Beoavia” founded in 2017. Comprised mostly of the students majoring in Aerospace Engineering, but also from other Departments and Faculties, the team, under the watchful guidance od Asst. Prof. Dr. Toni Ivanov, has produced several exquisite UAVs and rockets in the past few years, that have won internationally recognized prizes.
